Spending the time outdoors with your family is an experience you don’t want to miss. But with that, accidents are just around the corner if you’re not careful enough. In this article, we listed six safety tips to make your outdoor experience safer and fun at the same time. Let’s jump into it!

  • Keep Yourself Hydrated

  • Doesn’t matter if you’re just having a walk in the park or going on a family hike you should always carry a bottle of water with you. Our body is made up of 60% water and we lose a lot of this through sweat, urine, stool, and water vapor when we exhale. That’s why keeping yourself hydrated is important every time you go outside. Dehydration happens fast especially in warmer climates even if you’re not doing any kind of activity. So drink up and enjoy the day!
  • Protect Yourself from the Sun

  • Dehydration also happens fast when we’re too exposed to the sun. Kids can overheat easily and so does parents. If you’re having a trip to the pool, wear a swimsuit that covers up your whole body. If you’re on a hike around the neighborhood, wear a cap or sunglasses to protect your eyes from UV damage. Apply child-friendly sunblock to your children if you’re planning to stay outside with the kids for a longer period of time.
  • List All Medical Options

  • Before you go outside for a stroll or a camping trip, create a list of all the hospitals or care centers that are scattered around the city. Just in case an accident happens you can just quickly contact them for emergency.
  • Bring a First-Aid Kit

  • Every family should have a first-aid kit with them filled with bandages, wound cleaner, alcohol, tweezers, and more. Don’t forget to bring them so that you can quickly aid your child in case they got wounded or even yourself. Bring a copy of your health insurance and emergency contact list too.
  • Check for Ticks

  • Ticks are more likely to appear on moist areas of the body because this is where the most blood is. If you’re venturing out into wooded areas, always check your armpits, legs, neck, and hair for ticks. You don’t want to go home with a lot of ticks surrounding your body right?
  • Dress Properly

  • Always wear the right clothing before you venture out into the outdoors. Hiking shoes work best especially if you’re going on a hike in wooded areas. Don’t forget to wear a hat and sunglasses too to protect yourself from the heat of the sun. If your child is still little, put them on a baby carrier so you can free your hands from holding them while on a hike. If they’re already old enough, let them wear closed shoes if they want to play outside. Don’t forget to keep an eye on your kids so that nothing gets hurt.
